The outdated utilities area was designed to incorporate a new compact kitchenette complete with bar fridge, microwave and integrated dishwasher in addition to plenty of under bench and overhead storage. The existing laundry space was redesigned to house the front loader washing machine and dryer within concealed full height cabinetry incorporating a linen cupboard adjacent to the space. The corner shower was also given a new lease on life using brick tiles laid in a herringbone pattern up the walls and pebble tiles on the floor. New fittings and fixtures feature throughout, with contemporary black cupboard handles and tap ware in the kitchen.
Finishing touches include a washroom mirror, magazine rack and Baresque cafe table with Fritz Hansen Series 7 chairs in addition to a selection of the client’s artwork displayed on the painted brick walls. A new bi-fold window and bar height bench connects the preparation area in the kitchenette with the communal area beyond allowing the homeowner to cater for a casual get together or fully-fledged party. The outdoor area has been enhanced with a new ModWood deck creating an elevated and open area for yearlong lounging. The resulting transformation is a functional space that operates independently from the residence above allowing social functions and entertaining to take place a comfortable distance away from the privacy of the home.
